1925 Inaugural Reception & Ball Invitation☆
Her Excellency
Miriam A. "Ma" Ferguson ☆ Texas Governor
An original 1925 invitation to a Reception and Ball in honor of the inauguration of Her Excellency Miriam A. Ferguson, Governor of Texas
The Citizens of Austin requested the presence of "yourself and ladies"
The event was held at the State Capitol on Tuesday evening, January 20th, 1925
Governor
Ferguson
was one of the first two women (along with Nellie Tayloe Ross, Governor of Wyoming) to be elected as governor of a state. She served two non-consecutive terms as the first female Governor of Texas, from 1925 to 1927 and 1933 to 1935.
She was integral to an exceptional tale of the Texas governorship beginning with her husband,
James Edward "Pa" Ferguson Jr.'s election to the office in 1915
Many notable Austinites appear on the list of the Inaugural Executive Committee
The quad-folded invitation is in poor to fair condition - there is heavy insect damage that does not materially impact any of the invitation text - there is an old personalized handwritten note on the blank back side (written when a previous owner mailed the invitation to its next owner)
Dimensions (at half-fold): 7.25"W x 10"H
