LOST REPUBLICAN PRIMARY TO MIKE HAYDEN
Larry Jones ran for Kansas governor after serving as head of the huge Coleman Company of camping and outdoor equipment.  Jones served as President and CEO of Coleman from 1971 till 1985.  Jones was known for his personable management style.
He retired from Coleman in 1985 and turned his attention to Kansas politics, mounting an unsuccessful bid for the governor's office. But during his campaign, he formed a statewide organization of men with the same name. He invited all the "Larry Jones" he met to his campaign rallies. Jones was also appointed to serve on the Kansas Board of Regents in 1984, and served on several corporate boards.
